Birdland Audio breakthrough to discover Solid-TubeTM Technology.

Pacific Grove, California, October 12th 1998, Birdland Audio announces it has discovered a new output stage that offers extremely open sound stages while keeping the neutral, accurate and natural sound of its previous stages with the warmth of tubes. The technology will be named Solid-Tube TM and will be included in all the new designs.

The solid-tubeTM is a new and clever combination of jfet, mosfet and bipolar transistors where each technology works at hiding the shortcomings of the others while extracting only the most desirable linear characteristics of each. This linearity can be used to build open-loop designs as is commonly done in Birdland Audio’s amplifier as well as closed loop differential amplifiers.

"Engineers are aware of the flaws inherent to each active component technologies available. I've always been very careful at making sure that non-desirable side effects are not introduced in designs. Often, parts are added with no other role but to make another function at its best. Cascode is a perfect example."  Says French designer Gilles Gameiro, founder of Birdland Audio - "This and years of experience is how I came up with the Solid-Tube TM technology."

The technology will be used to build the next generation of products being designed by Birdland Audio including a powerful mono-block amplifier. Existing products will be modified to create a prototype only of the sound that can be achieved and will be shown in January at CES 1999. The new line of products is expected to be introduced at CES 2000.

The Pleyel amplifier is the result of over 10 years of research of French designer Gilles Gameiro who decided to found Birdland Audio after discovering the technology used in the company’s reference amplifier. Birdland Audio is an American manufacturer of high-end audio components. Today’s products include the Pleyel two channel reference amplifier, and the Odéon 24 bit DAC.
